Prestigiously positioned in a private cul de sac that houses just six properties, the four-bedroom, three-bathroom home at 10 Leslie Street, Glen Osmond has a commanding street presence.

The property has gone through a full renovation and remodel since Vivienne and Tony Gentile purchased it 36 years ago, transforming it from a 1960s brick box into a modern family home.

“It was a little 1960s rectangle with yellow terrazzo tiles lining the front stairs,” Vivienne says.

“It had pink and black terrazzo tiles in the bathroom and a pink bath.

“We had at least two wallpapers in every room and in the main room we had a magnificent, orange shag carpet and a chandelier.

“In the lounge, we had velvet wallpaper on the ceiling and purple wallpaper in stripes down the walls.”

Two years into owning the home, Vivienne and Tony undertook a complete renovation and remodel with building and design assistance from AV Jennings.

“We did a total strip and took the front of the house off, creating the new stairs coming up to the house,” says Vivienne. “It was a total makeover.”

The couple added an extension to the west side of the home, creating an en suite for the master bedroom, a bedroom for their daughter and another family living and dining space.

Along the west side of the home are magnificent windows offering stunning views over the city and to the ocean beyond.

“The views are spectacular and the sunsets and evening sky are just gorgeous,” Vivienne says.

The home’s prime position in Glen Osmond allows the couple an easy drive to their Murray Bridge holiday home, while still being close to the CBD and Goodwood, where Tony works.

“My husband, Tony has been hairdressing for 51 years,” says Vivienne.

After running Gentile’s Hairdressers in Collinswood for more than 50 years, Tony recently took an opportunity to sell and has helped transition business ownership over the past two years.

He is now working part-time at ConK Hair alongside Christos Kakoufas, who was an apprentice of Tony’s in the early 90s.

“Tony works there about three days a week and I assist him there whenever I can,” Vivienne says.

Tony and Vivienne are looking to downsize as they reach a new chapter in their lives. As much as they will miss the home, they are sure a new family will come and love it as much as they have.

“This house is a great canvas for the atmosphere you want to put in it,” Vivienne says.

“With the white walls and neutral carpet, you can turn it into whatever you wish.”

Vivienne knows the house will accommodate a new family of any size, hoping they can create similar memories to those their children made when they were growing up.

“There is plenty of room to build if people wanted to have a bigger house,” says Vivienne.

“You can plan to expand on either side and you can build upwards.

“It was a fantastic area for our children and I hope it will be a fantastic area again for a new family with children.”

The home has perfectly accommodated Vivienne and Tony for the past three decades, along with their two now-adult children and their West Highland terrier, Matilda.

“It was a very hard decision but it is time for us to move on,” Vivienne says.

“We are going to find something with less garden and no stairs and a place where we can take our beautiful dog for a walk every day.

“We raised our children here and have been very happy. It is going to be one of the saddest days of my life when we leave.”
