Feature Listing: Resort-inspired luxury in Burnside

Inspired by her stays in Bali, Jane DeDear enlisted the help of Enoki to transform this property from a character home to an opulent, resort-style masterpiece.

Poised in a private cul-de-sac at 4 Elizabeth Court, Burnside, this five-bedroom, three-bathroom home is a triumph of both design and function, with enviable living spaces and spa-like amenities.

When the property went up for sale in 2018, artist Jane DeDear jumped at the opportunity to own the home.

“I used to live next door at 2 Elizabeth Court, but I always loved number four,” Jane says.

“It just has this really lovely street appeal and a big, wide frontage. I really admired all the different levels and stone and tiled roof; it had a lot of character.”

With the help of Adelaide design firm Enoki, Jane immediately set about transforming the property into a dream home for her and her four teenagers.

“I got Susanna Bilardo to come in and have a look and we spent six months in planning and approvals,” Jane says.

“Then we gutted the whole house. I built nine rooms on, put the infinity pool in and relandscaped everything.

After two years of renovations and remodelling, the completed home boasts an effortless amalgamation of family living and an opulent, resort lifestyle.

“I spend a lot of time in Bali and I wanted the feel of the Legian Beach Hotel I stay in,” Jane says.

As part of Enoki’s design, Jane insisted upon a colour scheme without white as a way of enhancing the home’s warmth and character.

“Everybody has white houses and they’re sterile and a bit clinical,” Jane says. “I just wanted it to be warm and cosy with lots of textures.”

Defined by its separate spaces over three levels, yet connected by a central spiralling staircase, the home possesses both a sense of togetherness and separation, ensuring shared living and entertaining spaces in addition to private rooms.

“I actually love that it is not open plan,” Jane says. “I know everybody loves the whole open plan thing, but it is just so noisy.

The lavish master retreat contained within the ground level resembles a hotel suite with its expansive walk-in-robe, open en suite and adjoining lounge.

Optimal for entertaining guests or cosying up for a relaxed night in, the formal lounge is situated on the first floor with its feature gas fireplace and rich, wooden floorboards offset by black detailing for a warm, contemporary feel.

This space leads to an undercover, elevated alfresco area overlooking the infinity pool and outdoor area, which boasts a full kitchen and barbeque for entertaining.

The home is equipped with its own wellness centre located on the ground floor, featuring a lobby, sauna, indoor hot tub and private gym.

“Under the stairs were two pokey little storage rooms and I thought it would make a great sauna and hot tub,” says Jane. “So, I got a clear light sauna that fit within a centimetre of each side and clad it all in cedar to make it look like it was custom built.”

“We lined the lobby in cedar and I found these Adelaide guys that did cedar hot tubs. They came and built that beautiful, round cedar tub.”

Throughout the home, large windows allow an abundance of natural light in addition to views of sprawling greenery and a beautiful creek, enhancing the property’s feeling of seclusion.

“It’s all private land and it is green all year round, even in the middle of summer,” Jane says.

Although the epitome of serenity, the property is only moments from the CBD, public and private schools, and the boutique shopping precinct of Burnside Village.

“It is a really convenient place but still really private; it’s in a cul de sac so there is no traffic going through.”

Jane is selling her much-loved home to move overseas in pursuit of her dream lifestyle in Bali.

“I have had it here and now I am getting the real deal,” she says.

Jane believes a new family will appreciate the convenience of the home and all the amenities it has to offer.

“You don’t feel like you need to go anywhere; you can go to the gym. you can have a sauna and hot tub. You’ve got sunrooms to hang out in and you’ve got a pool,” Jane says.

The sale is being handled by Sharyn Yelland and Grant Giordano of Giordano & Partners Luxury Real Estate.
