A Song and Dance at Cheffy Chelby’s restaurant
Best known for their breakfast burgers, juices and smoothies, local SA restaurant and Best Burger Café Award winner Cheffy Chelby’s is THE foodie destination in Port Noarlunga. The venue has a regular live music schedule, celebrating the relationship between the local musicians and local hospitality.
Cheffy Chelby’s received national recognition with its OneMusic Excellence Award win, part of this year’s Restaurant and Catering Awards for Excellence. The awards celebrate the unique relationship between dining and music.
With a passionate appreciation for music, Michelle shares how Cheffy Chelby’s celebrates music in their venue, with a particular focus on supporting young and emerging musicians.
Michelle says, “We LOVE having live music in our Port Noarlunga venue! During the warmer months, we invite local and interstate artists to play in our wonderful beer garden to entertain the locals and visitors to the region.
Michelle shares her top tips for creating a great music atmosphere in their café:
- Play to the mood of the room, always!
- Try and play music that is relevant at the time e.g. at the time of a musicians passing, playing tribute to them
- Play upbeat music, with a happy vibe
- Keep the music level even throughout the café, and also provide a quieter area for people conducting business
Licensed for playing music through OneMusic Australia, Michelle is keen to see more venues offering live music. “It is important to support musicians for the hard work and years of training they have put into their art. Paying for a music licence helps support these people and their families.
Starting Cheffy Chelby’s as a 6×4 trailer on the Seaford Esplanade mid COVID, Michelle Lowe built the business from the ground up, with two Adelaide venues in two years with a third planned next year.
