Michael and Aakriti met in 2014 while working at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and have since supported each other through their careers in medicine, including two years of long-distance romance and through Covid lockdowns.

Their wedding day was more of a wedding week, with the couple honouring both their Indian and Australian traditions. Some of the special moments included the Sangeet Night with Indian dancing and feasting and the traditional Hindu ceremony. “I had never heard Michael sing in the nine years we’d been together and he surprised me by singing Can’t Take My Eyes Off You with our band backing him at our reception,” Aakriti says. Michael says planning for the five days, four venues and more than 100 people went smoothly. “The fact that the whole week went off without a hitch was a testament to my wife’s hard work,” Michael says. “We were so fortunate that everything came together for a truly special week with all our friends and family.”
