When we wanted to showcase a real mum and her children for the fashion pages of our Kids & Family Issue, Hayley Berlingeri was an obvious choice.
The mum of four delightful kids makes life look fun, beautiful, hectic and real on her Instagram page @sweetlittlestory.
Baby Giulietta is the latest addition to the family, joining Hayley and her husband Paolo and their little ones, Valentina, 8, Romeo, 6, and Sonny, 4.
“Life is hectic,” Hayley muses. “But in a good way! I’ve been so lucky that my closest friends and family have had babies around the same time as us, so I’ve been in the trenches of crazy kid chaos with my loved ones around me, and that’s been the biggest blessing. As they say, it takes a village.”
Before starting a family, Hayley grew spent quite a few of her childhood years in Kalgoorlie in regional Western Australia, where her dad worked in the mining industry.
Her family had also moved there to be closer to other members of religious group, The Message, which Hayley describes as a strict Christian religion were women don’t cut their hair, wear pants, wear make up, and the kids are mostly home schooled.
“On all levels, I had such an amazing childhood full of so much love and family and friendship.
“Although I’m not part of The Message now, I’m still in contact with the friends I grew up with and they’re the most loving, least judgemental people I’ve ever come across,” Hayley says.
Hayley came back to SA, studied teaching, then lived in the UK and Greece before settling in SA for good.
While she’s been employed as a teacher and junior school coordinator for 19 years, she’s taken seven years off in maternity leave.
Hayley always thought she’d be her children’s teacher, but she says the roles have been reversed.
“They have taught me so much about many things, even things I never knew I needed to know. And they continue to do so each day.”
