PREMIUM SAHOMES: Beachside bliss at Brighton

This luxury three-storey esplanade entertainer is on the market this week, offering enviable views of one of the state’s most iconic beaches.

Just a stone’s throw from Brighton’s iconic jetty, cafes, and restaurants, this luxurious esplanade home offers a coveted location with sweeping ocean views.

Owners Michelle and Steven King are selling the resort-style beachfront property, which they have called home since mid 2017. Designed by WG Architects, the striking modern property at 133a Esplanade, Brighton offers an incredible lifestyle over three levels with five bedrooms, a swimming pool, and two outdoor entertaining spaces.

The family is moving to St Peters to be closer to work, as Steven is a publican with hotels on the other side of the city.

“It’s been fabulous, but it’s a reluctant sale because our businesses are in the north-east,” Michelle says.

“It’s a beautiful house, very well designed and it caters for all ages. It would be an ideal family home for businesspeople who are commuting to the city, and it’s also a short drive from Adelaide Airport.”

When they were looking to buy in the area about four years ago, the couple first set their sights on apartments at Glenelg. Deciding to steer away from apartments they discovered the brand-new property at 133a Esplanade, which ticked all the boxes.

With its rare esplanade frontage and less hustle and bustle than Glenelg, they jumped at the opportunity.

“I really love where we are; Jetty Road is so close. You feel like you’re on holiday all the time,” Michelle says. “We’re very spoilt for sunsets.”

Technology is integrated throughout the home. The cantilevered front gate is accessible via smartphone, the bathrooms have heated floors, and there is a ducted vacuum, a five-person lift, a security system, and intercom.

After moving into the property, Michelle and Steven installed a 10-kilowatt solar system, which subsequently halved their energy bills.

Entry to the property is through a side gate with keypad, or through the four-car garage. There is also space for an additional two cars parked undercover on the driveway.

The ground floor contains a large entertaining space with an outdoor kitchen and barbecue, opening out to the Enviroswim gas-heated pool through commercial grade windows.

The ground floor living area has polished concrete underfoot, so wet feet from the swimming pool are nothing to worry about. There’s also a bathroom accessible directly from the pool.

The light-filled floating stairwell of American Oak leads up to the first floor, which boasts a chic gourmet kitchen with Caesarstone island bench, American oak breakfast bar, Smeg oven, and walk-in pantry. There’s also a Zip tap with boiling, cold and sparkling water.

The kitchen extends towards casual dining and living, which spills out to a terrace with a second outdoor kitchen. This balcony provides breathtaking beach and sunset views for sublime entertaining.

This first floor also contains a bedroom, study, laundry and powder room.

“It’s just a really well designed house,” Michelle says. “It’s got a beautiful kitchen, although it is quite easy just to go around to Jetty Road for dinner.”

The stairwell takes you up again to the third floor, which provides a luxurious private retreat and extra separation from the street level. The master bedroom is located on the beach side of the home, overlooking the esplanade and giving views of the coast from its elevated position.


This bedroom has a dressing room and a large en suite. This indulgent glass-framed designer bathroom has heated floors and a deep soaking tub.

“We have the bedroom door open most nights in summer, letting in the sound of the waves and smell of the ocean,” Michelle says.

There are three more upstairs bedrooms with built-in robes, sharing a central bathroom with heated floors, as well as a third powder room.

The house is thoughtfully designed to provide privacy from the esplanade, with the main living area elevated from ground level, while the swimming pool is located to the rear of the property.

Balcony views are complemented by the greenery of the street’s pine trees, which also provide a privacy screen.

The home is adorned with timber features throughout, but the exterior timber-look batons are synthetic so to withstand the coastal elements, including sun and salt air. All exterior fittings have been built to marine standards.


Louvered windows allow the sea breeze to enter the home and vent any build-up of warmth in summer.

The beach lifestyle will be sorely missed by Steven, who launches his fishing boat at West Beach, and their daughter who enjoys paddle boarding at Brighton, often bringing the family dog along for the ride.

The house has also provided a prime vantage point for Brighton’s New Year’s Eve fireworks. Michelle will miss the community and Jetty Road shops, including her coffee spot, Cafe Lune, in particular.

“Brighton is lovely, and there’s a real community down here.”
