Premium SAHOMES: Glamour and grandeur in Beaumont

This refined eastern suburbs estate has it all, with a swimming pool, tennis court, and expansive grounds set on 3678 square metres.

In 1995, Roslyn Brown and her husband purchased 11 Wilaroo Avenue, Beaumont, for just $567,000. They saw it as a perfect family home in which to raise their three children, and so it was.

With their boys having now moved out of home, the couple are looking to downsize and have reluctantly placed the expansive property on the market.

“It has a feeling that you’re almost out in the country but close to the city — we’ll miss the space,” Roslyn says.

“The gardens have been gorgeous over the years, and of course the memories associated with it. It’s been a great family home.”

The original house was built in 1956. Roslyn and her family added the upstairs extension and extensively renovated the entire house, all designed and overseen by architect Pauline Hurren, to suit their family. The home of five bedrooms, three bathrooms and multiple living areas is surrounded by park-like grounds.

“We found the home suited three boys nicely, but you could easily have four children here,” Roslyn says.

Downstairs is comprised of an open plan kitchen, dining and living area, along with a second living room. There is also a master suite with walk-in robe, a second bedroom or study, powder room, family bathroom and laundry. Upstairs, there are three large bedrooms with two enjoying views over the grounds to the Adelaide skyline.

The elegant downstairs sitting room contains an original marble fireplace, with French doors opening to the terrace. This room has served as the perfect spot for Roslyn’s baby grand piano: “I play the piano, and so does one of my sons. He finds it very hard to walk in and out of the house without sitting down to play.”

The property has proven to be a great entertainer over the years, taking advantage of the multiple living areas, outdoor undercover deck area with pizza oven, trellised verandas, salt-chlorinated pool and tennis court.

The gardens are an added bonus, with the couple having cultivated a veggie patch and many fruit trees, including peaches, apricots, nectarines, oranges, lemons, mandarins, grapefruit and other feature trees.

Sitting on a slight elevation, the family have enjoyed sunsets from the verandas looking towards the city.

“We have a really gorgeous old wisteria over all the verandas. It drips down from the pergola and verandas as you’re looking out toward the city. It’s finally in bloom now and it just looks glorious. When the sun is out, the scent is amazing.”

Other features of the home include brush box floorboards, granite benchtops in the kitchen, rainwater tanks, solar panels, two-space carport and off-street parking.

Easy access to nearby walking and cycling trails are an added bonus, along with proximity to schools and shopping.

“It would be nice for another family to enjoy and love it the way we have.”

Open inspections will be held on Friday, October 11 and Sunday, October 13.

The sale is being handled by Sally Cameron of Toop&Toop.
