Premium SAHOMES: Mid-century masterpiece with views to the gulf

This mid-century marvel has been painstakingly restored to its original glory. With plenty of space and priceless views, it’s ready and waiting for a new family to move in and enjoy.

You would expect the home of Nick Tirrell to ooze on-trend style and sophistication. Nick and his parents Monika and Peter run a local company called Presenting Beautiful Homes, ensuring homes are at their best when they hit the market.

The company employs tradies, designers and stylists to transform homes, ensuring they fetch the best price possible when the hammer drops.

That’s what Nick and his partner Beck Parkhurst are hoping for with the sale of their mid-century modern home in Torrens Park.

The four-bedroom home sits at the top of Alton Avenue, offering sweeping city views, down to Gulf St Vincent. The couple has completely renovated the property, including the standout matte black kitchen with herringbone tiling and a cute built-in breakfast booth.

The open plan living, dining and lounge areas all capture the incredible views, and lead out to a wrap-around verandah for alfresco dining. In keeping with the era of the house is the wall of glass and black metal, including French doors, leading out to the verandah.

“I’d say what we love the most about this house are the views,” says Nick. “The sunsets are just incredible. I’ve never had a house with views and now I really understand the concept.”

The home is set over two levels and has been completely updated throughout, although nothing structural was needed.

“When we bought the house it was a real fixer-upper,” Nick says. “Structurally, it was fine. It was a solid ’60s, double brick home with hardly a crack in it, but it had seen better days. We lived in it for a year before we started the renovation.”

There are two bedrooms upstairs, including the master suite with en suite and built-in robes, while downstairs is a teenager’s retreat, two more bedrooms, a bathroom and a spacious second living area.

“This house would be great for a family, the way it is laid out with the upstairs and downstairs, each with their own entrance,” Nick says. “And with the renovation, we’ve tried to stay in style with the era of the home, while combining contemporary, modern touches.

“There really is nothing more to do to it. It’s all ready for someone to just move in and enjoy it, as we have.”

The property is huge at 1700 square metres and the back yard is another key feature. The split-level space has a fire pit area on one level and a separate flat lawn area on another, great for kids or dogs, Nick says.

“We just love it here but we’re ready for our next project,” he says.

The house is being handled by Toop & Toop agent Jordan Begley and expressions of interest close on Wednesday, September 4 at 2pm.
