Scholarships for new Mercedes College students

Applications are now open for two 2023 scholarships, which are available to new students entering Mercedes College in Year 10.

Success at Mercedes College is measured by each student’s breadth of skills and abilities, confidence, and engagement as well as their academic achievements.

The 2023 Mercedes College scholarships on offer reflect this and provide opportunities for talented students to flourish. Scholarships are offered on academic merit to outstanding students, and for their enthusiasm to learn and contribute to the community.

Teaching the Australian curriculum through the IB framework, each student is set up for academic success and to flourish in an increasingly complex and intercultural world.

Principal, Andrew Balkwill says that as an IB world school Mercedes College pioneered its delivery in Australia, with the programme continuing to adapt to ongoing changes in employment markets and the tertiary education sector.

“Mercedes College has successfully delivered the IB for more than 30 years, with no other curriculum better preparing students for future success,” Andrew said.

“It develops inquiring, knowledgeable young people with a social conscience by delivering an education that crosses disciplinary, cultural, national and geographical boundaries, championing critical engagement, stimulating ideas and effective relationships,” he said.

Applications are now open for International Baccalaureate Scholarships, commencing in Year 10.

Offered to students entering Year 10, yet not currently attending Mercedes College, the scholarship is reflective of the IB Diploma Programme that aims to develop students who have an excellent breadth and depth of knowledge, and who flourish physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically.

Offered annually this scholarship provides for remission of tuition fees.

From Year 6 to Year 10 Mercedes College students study the IB Middle Years Programme, then in Years 11 and 12 they can choose to complete the IB Diploma Programme or the South Australian Certificate of Education, including a vocational path, if that is where their interest lies.

Regardless of their choice, having studied the IB they are well equipped for success.

Also on offer is the Mercedes College Old Scholars’ Association (MOSA) Scholarship.

Every three years, the Association offers a scholarship to a student not currently attending Mercedes College and who may otherwise not be able to attend. This scholarship covers student tuition fees, the capital levy and resource fee for Years 10, 11 and 12.

Appreciating that scholarships can have a profound and lasting effect on a young person, MOSA established the scholarship, with the inaugural recipient now flourishing in the third year of his scholarship.

He reflects, “I am so grateful for this scholarship as the College has made a positive change in my life. I know I will graduate with the experiences of a lifetime and be forever grateful for the generosity of the MOSA community and my Mercedes College friends, teachers and coaches.”
