A most a-tractor-ive weekend
The magic of historic tractors will be on full display this August 3 to 4 at the Mundoora Mud and Dust Vintage Tractor Pull in Mundoora. Cheer from the sidelines as participants attempt to haul these timeless tractors across some 100 metres, including the classic 1906 Fowler Steam Traction Engines. Browse the arts and craft stalls, or check out the displays of vintage cars, trucks, motorcycles and stationary engines. There will also be food trucks, live music and free miniature steamtrain rides. Another highlight will be the opening of a time capsule on Saturday to celebrate 150 years of the Hundred of Mundoora.
BMG Art exhibition
Head to BMG Art on Halifax Street for an exhibition featuring works from Nicholas Uhlmann alongside John Coburn (1925-2006) and William Ferguson. Nicholas Uhlmann is a mid-career sculptor who creates everything from miniatures to large-scale public sculptures using timber and metal, with a “constructivist technique”. Nicolas’s sculptures will be paired with screenprints by 20th-century Australian abstract artist John Coburn and paintings by William Ferguson. This installation will be displayed from Friday, August 9 until Saturday, August 31.
Back to the Jazz Age
Travel back to the “Jazz Age” as the much-loved musical Chicago makes its way to the Festival Theatre. Set in the 1920s, the Broadway musical follows Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly, two women who are accused of murder and become celebrities while awaiting trial. Written in 1975 with music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb, Chicago features hit songs All That Jazz, Cell Block Tango and Roxie. The Adelaide performance stars Anthony Warlow as Billy Flynn, Zoë Ventoura as Velma Kelly, Lucy Maunder as Roxie Hart, Peter Rowsthorn as Amos Hart and Asabi Goodman as Matron “Mama” Morton. Chicago runs from August 4 to 31.
