JamFactory, Adelaide Cabaret Festival and the Winter Whale Fest
Adelaide Cabaret Festival
Prepare to be entertained as the Adelaide Cabaret Festival returns with two weeks of world-class cabaret. This year’s program has been curated by Artistic Director Virginia Gay, with a line-up of both local and international talent. Highlights of this year’s performance include The 2024 Variety Gala opening night on June 7 and a tribute concert by Nina Simone’s daughter, Lisa. This year’s festival runs from June 7 to 22 and will include 79 world-class performances.
Glass art at the JamFactory
This weekend, head to the JamFactory for the FUSE Glass Prize, a non-acquisitive biennial prize for Australian and New Zealand glass artists. The prize provides a platform for artists to push themselves to new limits and focuses public attention on the importance of glass as a medium for contemporary artistic expression. The FUSE Glass Prize is on at the JamFactory on Morphett Street in the city until July 7.
Whale of a time
Coinciding with the arrival of the migrating Southern Right Whales into Fleurieu Peninsula waters, Victor Harbor’s month-long Winter Whale Fest is an opportunity to share in the local community’s passion for the preservation and protection of the species. Running until June 30, the festival will host 25 events, including guided tours around Granite Island and the Victor Harbor foreshore, talks from marine experts, a scuba diving adventure, a film festival, a fair, an artisan market and much more. There have already been several humpback whale sightings this season and the Southern Right Whales are expected to arrive soon, so head to Victor Harbor this long weekend to catch a glimpse of these incredible creatures.
On your bike
The southern Flinders Ranges town of Melrose will come alive over the long weekend of June 7 to 10 for the annual Melrose Fat Tyre Festival, which celebrates its 21st year in 2024. There will be a street party with food trucks, live music, BMX displays and kids’ entertainment, along with skills clinics and guided tours. The action takes place out the front of the Over The Edge cafe and sports shop, which offers coffee, cold-pressed juices, breakfast and brunch where mountain bikers can refuel after tackling the new $1.8 million EPIC Trail which winds 38 kilometres through Mount Remarkable National Park.
Almathon returns
The Almathon returns to Norwood’s Alma Tavern this Sunday, June 9 for half a day of pizza, drink specials and DJs. The first 100 people through the door will receive three free drink cards, while the DJs will spin their tunes from 2pm. Taking place from 12pm to midnight, this is a perfect way to spend the long weekend with friends.
