Matildas, Praxis Artspace exhibition and Adelaide Baroque

This weekend, join in the Matildas madness as they take on China at the Adelaide Oval, celebrate local artists at Praxis Artspace, or enjoy a paella at East End Cellars.

Making us proud

Matildas fever is in the air this weekend. Back in Adelaide for the first time since 2019, the Matildas will take on China at Adelaide Oval this Friday, May 31. The match is part of a two-game ‘Til It’s Done Farewell Series in the lead-up to the Paris Olympics. In 2019, the Matildas beat Chile in an international friendly at Hindmarsh Stadium in front of 10,342 people. In 2024, they will take to the iconic Adelaide Oval grass in a sold-out match that is expected to top 50,000 in attendance. While the game is sold out, there are plenty of ways you can partake in the Matildas madness, including watching the match on the big screen at the Tillies Bar in Rundle Mall.

Celebrating local artists

Head to Praxis Artspace in Bowden this weekend for the Art of Dying art exhibition. Dance away to the beats from guest DJ Ruby Chew as you admire the artwork. Featuring works from 45 local creatives, including Alexandra Renneisen, Elizabeth Wojciak and Paul Alexander, this art show supports the local artistic community and the Pure Land Hospice. You might even love one of the works so much that you decide to take it home with you. The event, which will take a gold coin donation on entry, is on Sunday, June 2 from 11am to 3pm at 68-72 Gibson Street, Bowden.

A Mediterranean journey

Old Worlds and New by Adelaide Baroque explores the unique musical tradition that emerged in the multicultural Mediterranean region during the Medieval and early Renaissance periods. Led by virtuosic baroque violinist Ben Dollman, this performance will feature Aaron Brown on violin, Philip Griddin on the Middle Eastern oud, Tunji Beier on hand percussion and Maryam Rahmani on the santur – a Persian stringed instrument. Old Worlds and New is at Nexus Arts on Friday, May 31 and Saturday, June 1.

It’s paella time!

Make your way to Vardon Avenue this Sunday, June 2 to enjoy a delicious paella at East End Cellars. Savour the flavours of this delectable specialty as you sip on a glass of Gorrondona Txakoli and soak in the lively ambience. The Paella Sundays at East End Cellars Vardon event will take place on the first Sunday of every month until October.
