What’s on: Christkindlmarkt, Unley Carols, music and more

The festive season is in full swing with Christkindlmarkt, carols at Unley and Gawler, Christmas Lights, Festive Nights and more.

Go to market

Visit Hahndorf for this year’s Christkindlmarkt, from December 13 to 15, from 4pm to 10pm each night. There will be arts, crafts, homewares and more available, as well as food trucks and entertainment at the European-style Christmas market.

Sing the songs

Pack your picnic for the Unley Carols at the Rotunda, at the Soldiers’ Memorial Gardens, on Sunday, December 15. The event features the Concordia College Choir and vocalist Serena Martino-Williams, as well as sing-alongs, Father Christmas and food stalls. The Gawler Community Christmas Carols will be on Saturday, December 14 on the lawns of Pioneer Park. Markets will begin at 4pm, followed by carols and Santa.

Shine bright

Enjoy the festivities at Christmas Lights, Festive Nights, from December 13 to 20, at Victoria Square. There will be Christmas films on Friday nights, Christmas markets on Saturdays and Sundays, food trucks, live music and giant games. A Santa sleigh will be made with more than 130,000 Lego bricks – you can even sit in it.

Street screening

Take the family along to a screening of Home Alone, on Friday, December 13, on the corner of Opey Avenue and King William Road, Hyde Park. There will be food, refreshments and entertainment from 5pm and the film will begin at sunset.

Rock royalty

One of the most iconic figures in modern music, former Oasis front-man Liam Gallagher performs under the stars at Bird in Hand winery on Saturday, December 14. The English singer-songwriter will perform hits from his back-catalogue, as well as solo numbers with the release of his second solo record, Why Me, Why Not?

Under the stars

Inspirational South Australian performer and producer Anthony Maras, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis three years ago, will perform at Morphettville Racecourse on Saturday, December 14 for Paul and Billy Under the Stars. Renowned for his Billy Joel tribute performances, Anthony will be joined by John Kater who will perform songs by Paul McCartney. The performance is a testament to Anthony’s continued positive attitude towards his diagnosis. “The fact that I’m singing Billy Joel songs overrides any negative thoughts and is probably the best medicine for me,” Anthony says.

Let there be light

Surround yourself with thousands of sparkling lights, meet Santa and see the beauty of illuminated stained glass windows at Westminster School’s Christmas Lights. You can walk through the trails, or drive along, taking in the festive displays. The lights are on until Thursday, December 19, opening at 8pm nightly.
