What’s On: Fringe in the Hills, chilli at Madame Hanoi and medieval in Mount Gambier

Spice up your life at Madame Hanoi’s Chilli Fest, enjoy some Fringe in the Hills or step back in time with a visit to Mount Gambier's Fantasy Medieval Fair.

Fun at the Fringe

Head to Lobethal and Stirling this weekend to celebrate the Adelaide Fringe for a little bit longer with Fringe in the Hills. The festival will feature an entirely South Australian line-up of everything from cabaret to comedy, and live music to family-friendly fun. Indulge in a smorgasbord of local food and beverages from Prancing Pony, Lobethal Bierhaus, Applewood Gin, Udder Delights, Son of Dot wines, Parley wines, LOBO cider and Mighty Mighty Coffee.

Flavours of the past

Head to picturesque Kangarilla on Saturday, April 23 for Mr Riggs’ annual museum tasting. Hosted at Ben Riggs’ private residence in Piebald Gully Vineyard, tastings of current and museum releases will be offered within the shiraz vineyards along with music, platters and tastings. The private residence is open to visitors for one day only and is a case of first in best dressed.

Feel the burn

Enjoy an abundance of chilli-hot deliciousness at Madame Hanoi in SkyCity as Chilli Fest has begun. Enjoy head chef Raj’s spicy creations alongside chilli-inspired cocktails to keep the heat going all night long. For the bravest chilli-eaters, try the Crispy Pork Puff Challenge with freshly diced chillis ranging from mild to seriously spicy. With various levels of heat, there’s sure to be a dish to make even the biggest chilli-fanatic sweat. Bring the heat home and keep the celebrations going all year with two fiery chilli sauces available for purchase.

Be left speechless

The latest exhibition hosted by BMGART will be opened on Friday, April 22 by Richard Heathcote, the Director of Benefaction at Carrick Hill. Running through until Saturday, May 14, the exhibition features a collection of sculptures by Nicholas Uhlmann alongside the Speechless collection of oil paintings by Jason Cordero. Art pieces on display will be available for purchase through BMGART.

Shining armour

Travel back in time with the Fantasy Medieval Fair in Mount Gambier on April 23 and 24. Witness historical re-enactments and combat by armour-clad fighters, or learn a new skill with artisan demonstrations including weaving, spinning and leatherwork. Abundant market stalls will be overflowing with medieval-inspired wares and a tavern tent will be serving up ale and mead. Admire the finesse of longbow archery, or delve into your own fantasy world with come-and-try Dungeons and Dragons tables.
