What’s On: Gin on the Popeye, JamFactory exhibitions and jazz

This weekend, enjoy some local gin or soak in the creativity of SA artists at JamFactory, Capri Theatre and the Collective Haunt.

Gin-quisitive minds

This September, cruise along the River Torrens with a glass of gin in hand at the Popeye’s Prohibition Gin Experience. Board at the Elder Park landing and learn the secrets behind how Prohibition create their gins and how to best enjoy them, and be invited to mix drinks to your liking. Indulge in decadent platters of local produce and take in the surroundings from the heart of the city.

Embracing light

Currently showing in Gallery One at JamFactory, Jessica Loughlin: of light is an exhibition of Jessica Loughlin’s ethereal kiln-formed glass artworks that explore her fascination with the beauty of emptiness and her extensive research into light and space. The exhibition is part of JamFactory’s ICON series that celebrates the achievements of influential South Australian artists working in craft-based media. Jessica takes her artistic cues from the vast, flat landscapes and salt lakes of South Australia and is drawn to the inherent quietness and stillness of the land. Jessica Loughlin: of light will be on display until Sunday, September 18.

Get jazzy

Enjoy an evening of jazz stylings as Ms Trace returns to the stage at the Capri Theatre on Sunday, September 11 after years of battling illness. Feel the spirit of the music of past jazz greats as Laure Emery, Danielle Garuccio, Triniti Canini, Maria Stone and Danielle Raslan celebrate lives past and present as they perform Past Jazz Greats.

Daring debut

Caitlin Möhr’s debut exhibition, An Introspective Journey will be showing at Collective Haunt this September. The exhibition has been inspired by Caitlin’s experiences of self-discovery, coupled with observations of disconnect in her community and work as a patient service assistant. Seven large-scale paintings alongside sculptural works and an inter-connective installation will offer audiences an alternative lens through which to view the world and Caitlin’s creative efforts.

Follow the yellow brick road

Explore the city this September with the Searching for the Wizard of Oz interactive scavenger hunt. Inspired by L. Frank Baum’s classic tale, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, the tour invites city visitors to “follow the yellow brick road” through Adelaide CBD to locate illustrated posters and scan them to unlock each chapter of the story and track down the elusive Wizard. Characters are brought to life with animations, and participants must decode cryptic clues to unlock the Wizard’s location. An encounter with the Wizard will complete the experience and guide participants back into the comfort of the city.
