What’s On: Vegan Festival, Gathered Market and wine in the sunshine

This weekend in Adelaide, indulge in the best food and wine on offer with the Vegan Picnic in the East End and Penfolds’s Summer Series at Magill Estate.

Sipping on sunshine

To celebrate the warmer months, Penfolds Magill Estate is hosting its Summer Series at the cellar door from December 1 to 24 and January 4 to February 26. From Wednesday to Sunday, enjoy wine on the terrace with curated tasting flights, wines by the glass and decadent food pairings. Every Thursday and Friday evening, watch the sun set with a glass of wine, enjoying extended opening hours for twilight on the terrace. A special event will be hosted each Thursday and Friday night for the ultimate twilight experience where guests can walk in the footsteps of winemaking legends and learn of their craftsmanship and enduring winemaking philosophy as they explore the vineyard and discover the underground cellar on a private tour.

Plant-based picnic

After its October cancellation due to wet weather, Adelaide’s Vegan Picnic has been rescheduled for Sunday, December 11 for a day of vegan delights in the sunshine. Whether you’re interested in health, fitness and raw food or more of a burgers, doughnuts and cake kind of person, the Vegan Picnic will be catering to every vegan craving with a stellar line up including Staazi & Co, Love Buds and OMG! Donuts. Retail outlets and charity organisations will also be present on the day offering vegan products to take home and teaching about a more sustainable lifestyle. Gather your pups, pack a picnic and head into the city for a full day of vegan delights and indulge guilt-free to your heart’s content.

Gather some goods

The Gathered Design Market will be making its way to Hahndorf from December 9 to 11 for the annual Christmas markets. Join in all the festivities and celebrate by shopping up a storm alongside your family and friends with more than 60 stalls of South Australian crafters and designers selling homewares, gifts, beauty products, fashions, accessories and decorations. There will be plenty to eat and drink throughout the day with stalls selling bao buns, dumplings, curries, gozlemes, sweet treats and refreshments including coffee and wine. A gold coin donation is required for entry with part proceeds donated to the Love Out Loud Christmas Appeal.

Adelaidean art

The Mill, South Australia’s leading multidisciplinary arts organisation encompassing a studio, creative industry offices and working spaces for over 45 local artists, makers, and designers, is hosting a pop-up shop at their Angas Street address over the festive season. Running until Wednesday, December 21, the pop-up shop features products created by South Australian artists including clothing, sculptures, art prints, homewares, ceramics and jewellery that will make perfect gifts this Christmas.

Sleepless nights

Presented by Realscape Productions in the Dunstan Playhouse until Saturday, December 31, Ghost Stories is a spine-tingling, supernatural theatrical thriller sure to keep audience members on the edge of their seats. In the performance, Professor of Parapsychology, Phillip Goodman, recites the three mysterious cases he has encountered during his research that he cannot explain. A fully sensory encounter, Ghost Stories is a twisted love letter to classic horror that will be sure to keep audience members awake much past their usual bedtime.
