What’s On: Wellness Wander, sci-fi meets art, and the Capri’s organ turns 40

This weekend in Adelaide, check out the new art exhibition in the Adelaide Botanic Garden, or head away from the CBD and find serenity in the Adelaide Hills with Wellness Wander.

Find serenity

Wellness Wander returns to the Adelaide Hills from March 31 to April 2 with more than 60 experiences and events happening across the region. The program offers opportunities to unwind away from the city and reconnect with nature and yourself through meditation, exploration, relaxation and creation. Embrace nature with Sanctuary Serenity or the Wildlife Wander Dusk Tour at Warrawong Wildlife Sanctuary. Indulge in deliciousness with a hands-on food preparation experience with Enrico Sgarboosa at Tilbrook Estate, or forage for your own produce at Lenswood. For those who simply want to get away from it all, massages, spa experiences and luxury resort stays are abundant in the program.

Sci-fi meets art

Textile artist Kasia Tons explores the relationship between humans and nature in her exhibition Biotic Commune at the Santos Museum of Economic Botany. Showing until July 16, the exhibition features artworks crafted from organic materials including dried banana skins and bulrush seeds, as she seeks to envisage a future where humans take a “giant step back” to ensure survival. “The humans who exist within Biotic Commune don’t fear the natural world; they don’t control, tame or exploit,” Kasia says. “They still make use of plants for food, shelter, clothing and medicine but in line with the plant community. It is a regenerative process.”

Forty and fabulous

Prepare to party as the Capri Theatre celebrates the 40th anniversary of its mighty Wurlitzer organ. The festivities kick off on Friday, March 31 with live music featuring ‘80s hits and a screening of Dirty Dancing. On Saturday, April 1, enjoy live music from the big band era with Chris McPhee on the Wurlitzer, accompanied by the City of Unley Concert Band. Experience the magic of the inaugural 1983 concert on Sunday, April 2 as two of the three original organists perform a concert on the Wurlitzer organ. All proceeds from 40th anniversary events will go towards the restoration of Capri Theatre’s iconic organ.

Get fit fast

Weight loss, sleep and wellness expert Dr Michael Moseley will share his knowledge at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre on Saturday, April 1 with his new live show. Using engaging visuals, Moseley will take the audience on a journey of the human body, explaining how it works and the best ways to care for it. Dr Clare Bailey will join Moseley on stage, discussing her recipe book Fast 800 and demonstrating how her delicious recipes can make for a healthy and well-rounded diet.

Welcoming all

Based on the true story of a small town that helped thousands of passengers left stranded by the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Come From Away is currently showing at Her Majesty’s Theatre. Written by Irene Sankoff and David Hein, and directed by Christopher Ashley, the musical boasts a cast of Australian and international performers. In writing the piece, Sankoff and Hein travelled to Newfoundland, where the play is based, to attend the 10th anniversary commemoration and collected hundreds of interviews with the people who experienced it firsthand. Come From Away is showing until April 29.
