What’s On: Wine, beer, gin and Disney on Ice

Whatever your tipple, there's something for you this long weekend, plus a fun run, Judy Garland and Disney on Ice.

Weekend of wine

There will be plenty to do at Woodstock Wine Estate this long weekend with drinks, dancing and family-friendly fun. On Saturday, June 11, enjoy live music by The MAC Band as they perform a Fleetwood Mac tribute show amongst the gums. Spend the day dancing the cold away on Sunday, June 12 with the Day Dance, featuring live acoustic sets by Bermuda Bay, Tilly Tjala Thomas and Lucinda R, plus a disco-themed deejay set with Combo Meltpack. Bring the whole family on Monday, June 13 for Family Fun Day with Peter Combe and enjoy lots of food and family-friendly activities.

Pretty in pink

Enjoy a day at the races while supporting charity with the Pink Ladies Race Day on Sunday, June 12 at the Port Augusta Racing Club. Proceeds from the day will be donated to support cancer research and provide vital services for Australians living with cancer. Fashions on the field will reward all things pink to help raise awareness of breast cancer. Gates will open at 11am with drinks flowing from the bars and lunch available from Track Café and the Community Barbeque.

Embrace darkness

The Festival of Darkness will be taking over Adelaide’s East End on Sunday, June 12, with a pouring of dark ales and live music at The Stag Public House and NOLA. More than a dozen independent Australian brewers will be showcased across the venue, talking guests through the creation process and sharing all things dark, malted and imperial. There will be plenty of festival food by NOLA and The Stag, as well as the opportunity to dance the night away at the Festival of Darkness Afterparty.

Cheers to gin

Celebrate World Gin Day in style on Saturday, June 11 with the Gilbert Place Gin Carnivale. The Gilbert Place Laneway will be made pedestrian-only for a party of gin tastings, cocktails, live music and entertainment, and dancing. There will also be an array of gin producers offering tastings and masterclasses for the most passionate gin enthusiasts. Continue the celebrations into the night with the Dark Party for an indulgent evening of gin-inspired entertainment.

Dive into light

Head to Renmark this long weekend and experience In Depth, a large-scale multimedia event hosted as part of Illuminate Adelaide that is transforming the river and banks of Renmark with projection, sound and lighting. A collaboration between Craig Walsh, local artists and community members, the installation draws people to the river’s edge to experience an unexpected encounter, rich in history and to evoke new stories and mythologies related to this time and place. Joining Craig Walsh is Carla O’Brien’s Neon Winter installation that lights up as you embrace the chill and wander through the installations to capture the perfect glowing photograph.

Into the magic

The magic returns to Adelaide as Disney on Ice takes over the Adelaide Entertainment Centre from June 10 to 13. See all your Disney favourites live as Belle explores the Beast’s enchanted castle, then experience Moana’s courage as she embarks on a voyage with demigod Maui to save her island, and sing along with Miguel from Coco as he follows the music in his heart. Be inspired by Anna’s devotion to her sister Elsa on her journey to the North Mountain to stop the eternal winter, and watch Rapunzel and Flynn go to great lengths to make their dreams come true. Disney fans of all ages are sure to be wowed by the incredible theatrics of Disney on Ice.

Winter warm up

Head to Whistler Wines in the Barossa Valley on Sunday, June 12 for a cosy afternoon of stew and shiraz. Tuck into a bowl of warming goodness served by Vintage Chef Co and indulge in a hearty red while Sammy Brittain and his three-piece band set the mood with a live music set. Mrs Sippy will brew up a storm of coffee to help warm up amidst the Whistler Wines vines.

Aerial artistry

Get your tickets now for The Cabaret Festival’s Cirque Bon Bon, a fusion of mind-bending contortion, aerial artistry, incredible dancers, and death-defying acrobatic feats. In its Australian premiere, Cirque Bon Bon will be playing from Wednesday, June 15 to Sunday, June 19 at the Space Theatre. Hosted by comedy emcee Mario, Queen of the Circus, Cirque Bon Bon will be an incredible evening of playful wonder.

Run along

The Coastal2City fun run will be back on Sunday, June 12, with three event distances to choose from. Challenge yourself with either the 10-kilometre, 21.1-kilometre or 42.2-kilometre course. All races will start at the Grange Jetty Reserve, with the course running through Henley Beach towards West Beach and back.

Special centenary

The Capri Cinema will celebrate what would have been Judy Garland’s 100th birthday on the afternoon of Monday, June 13 with a screening of Meet Me in St. Louis. The Capri Cinema bar will open at 1pm, followed by half an hour of Judy Garland’s favourite songs sung live by Selena Britz. At 3pm, a screening of Meet Me in St Louis will tell the story of the four Smith daughters as they prepare for a reluctant move to New York in the lead up to the 1904 St Louis World’s Fair.
