What’s On: Winter Reds, Almond Blossom Festival and museum wonderland
Rich in reds
The annual Winter Reds celebration in the Adelaide Hills will return from Friday, July 29 to Sunday, July 31 with wineries lighting their fires and uncorking their finest wines. Enjoy guided tastings, museum wines and hearty long lunches in the beauty of the Adelaide Hills. There will be the usual suspects of shiraz, pinot noir and cabernet sauvignon in addition to varietals such as nebbiolo, tempranillo, cabernet franc and gamay.
In bloom
Embrace all that Willunga has to offer with the Almond Blossom Festival on July 30 and 31. The festival welcomes families for a weekend of fun with market stalls, camel rides, live music and fireworks. The Almond Hub will be set up to explore all things almond, including cooking demonstrations, displays and opportunities to meet the growers. For those who want to show off their baking prowess, the Almond Cookery Competition will be serving up an abundance of almond cakes, breads and biscuits.
Have a snowball
Enjoy the South Australian Museum after dark on Friday, July 29 with Night Lab: A Winter Wonderland. The winter-themed evening offers an avalanche of activities including live performances and talks, hands-on activities, Illuminate Adelaide exhibits and VR experiences. Food and beverages will be available throughout the evening and there will be a frosty fancy dress competition. Special RSPCA guest Husky Bellarina will make an appearance alongside deejay Dave Collins who will be spinning beats all night long.
Fast cars
From Friday, July 29 to Sunday, July 31, enjoy an action-packed weekend of motorsports with the OTR Supersprint at The Bend Motorsport Park in Tailem Bend. There will be no shortage of on-track action as, alongside the International Circuit, there will be five support categories including the Porsche Carrera Cup and historic touring cars. Keep the kids entertained between the races at the kids’ zone or with HotWheels stunt action and drag car demonstrations.
Magical music
On July 29 and 30, Nicholas Braithwaite will conduct Spellbound, a program of Wagner’s Ring Cycle, featuring four German-language music dramas based loosely on characters from Germanic heroic legend. Experience an epic tale of gods, giants and dragons through the euphoric highs and bellowing lows produced by the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra at the Adelaide Town Hall. The orchestral experience is drawn from the world of mythology and tells the story of a civilisation driven to destruction by greed and lust.
